Well protection pamphlet is helpful

A large number of residents in Dutchess County rely on public or private wells for their drinking water supply.

In recent years many threats to well water have been documented in local media, including industrial solvents, a crashed gasoline tanker truck, bacteria from septic systems and the lack of water during droughts.

Recently, Fishkill town officials have made available a pamphlet titled, "Your Well Water Supply and How to Protect It."

This proactive approach of helping to protect drinking water before a problem occurs is particularly noteworthy. Fishkill deserves high praise for making this information available to their residents.
