44th Annual Union Grove Old Time Fiddler's Convention 1968

(Last Update: May 14, 2011 - In the works: updating pages with captions.)

According to bluegrass musician/historian Tom Isenhour, this particular program
contained photos all taken the previous year, instead of using some photos
from farther in the past.

I sure remember this photo. My brother Bob was our banjo picker for that Convention. Like 3/4 of
the bands there that weekend we were a throw-together band. We were in line to get our group photo
made in one of the Union Grove classrooms. Bob had to go to the bathroom and didn't get back in time
so our good friend Al Osteen stepped in the back in Bob's place on the banjo. He's even holding Bob's
banjo which I guess Bob gave him to hold while he went to the bathroom. Can't explain the back row
darkness other than an amateur photographer the school hired. None of us sang and you got to do 2 songs.
I remember doing Salt Creek and Sinking Creek. I made that mandolin strap in 7th grade arts class and
still use it today. It's never let me down. - Tom Isenhour 11/20/14
